One of the most important topics that is discussed in today's political literature is the issue of freedom. At the same time, one of the concepts that has had the greatest range of definitions and even contradictions is the concept of freedom. For this reason, freedom is one of the subjects to which Ayatollah Mutahhari paid special attention, and in his various works, he has addressed its explanation from various aspects, such as the correct definition of freedom and its various types, the difference in the view of Islam and Western schools of thought including liberalism on the concept of freedom, the difference between “freedom of thought” and “freedom of belief”, and the subject of individual freedom and government power. In this research, an attempt has been made to explain these issues by referring to various works of Ayatollah Mutahhari. Also, by criticizing various aspects of the Western view on the issue of freedom, the shortcomings of this perspective are clarified and ultimately, to specify the duties of desirable governance in achieving the freedom of individuals in society, so that all talents grow, rather than freedom of a talent harms the growth of other talents.
