Abstract
One of the important achievements of the Islamic Revolution of Iran in the West Asian region is the formation of an interwoven identity under the name of the axis of resistance. In such a way that today a network of revolutionary activists in the global arena, influenced by these teachings and within the framework of the axis of resistance against the hegemonic system, are active. Iran has acted as an activist by taking advantage of regional events and by supporting the axis of resistance, has strengthened its position in the security equations of the Levant. The main purpose of this research is to study the reasons for Iran's strategic support for Syria and the axis of resistance in West Asia. Given the importance of examining the reasons for Iran's support for its allies in the axis of resistance and the geopolitical interests resulting from it, this article seeks to answer the main question: what was Iran's strategy towards the axis of resistance in the Levant before the overthrow of the legitimate Syrian government? In response, inspired by the balance of threat theory, the hypothesis is put forward that the main reason for Iran's protectionist strategy of the axis of resistance.
