Abstract
This article examines and compares the media policies of two major regional actors, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Turkey, in the South Caucasus. Given the geopolitical developments following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, the media have become a vital tool in soft competition and shaping political perceptions in the region. The main focus of this research is on how the media actions of Iran and Turkey are represented, framed, and impact public opinion in Armenia; a country that is recognized as an independent but vulnerable actor in this equation. Using an analytical-comparative approach, this research shows that Turkey’s media policy is largely aligned with geopolitical goals and based on a strategic alliance with Azerbaijan, while Iran has adopted a more cautious, balancing approach based on maintaining regional stability and preventing escalation of tensions. These differences clearly demonstrate the dimensions and nature of regional competition in the field of soft power and media diplomacy.
